Two Weeks of Chemo: Day 13

This is part of an ongoing two-week series. For more info, see this introductory post.

I am writing today's post from my doctor's office waiting room. No, nothing has gone wrong. This is my biweekly, mid-treatment checkup.

Generally, these appointments are meant to make sure I am ready for the next round of chemo and address any concerns about the treatment plan and side effects. As of late, these have been very quick and painless appointments. I alternate between seeing my oncologist and the practice's nurse practitioner, having my vitals taken, heart and lungs listened to, and fatigue level assessed. In the first few weeks of my treatment, however, we made good use of these meetings, mostly trying to find nausea medications that worked.

Weird dots, huh?
I still occasionally come in with a new complain or observation. For example, in the last few weeks I have developed these weird discolored dots on my big toes. They don't hurt or cause any discomfort; they just look odd when I wear flip-flops. I mentioned it because in medicine you never know if a weird sign is harmless or indicative of other larger problems (or so the hypochondriac in me says). My doctor said it was probably nothing, but noted it in my chart anyways just because it was so strange.

I can tell that my care providers are always happy to see me because I probably have the fewest other health problems and complaints, as I haven't had as much time to develop them as their average patient. Really, I spend most of my time in these appointments discussing the med school application process (and how it sucks). Well, it's a good distraction from chemo and vice versa.

Back to Day 12.
Ahead to Day 14.
